Mr. Andy R. Camacho

As a legal advisor at BTC Law, Mr. Andy R. Camacho focuses on business law, civil and tax litigation, and white collar defense.  Andy has handled hundreds of investigations during his career, most of which involved complex issues of federal law and often with an international perspective.

Recognized as a leader throughout his career, including multiple awards for his international work in Latin America. Andy has developed an in-depth knowledge of U.S. federal and state laws and Latin American legal systems and how to find solutions to often seemingly impossible situations when those two areas come together. Through his work in Latin America, Andy has trained a combination of hundreds of judges, prosecutors, and investigators on investigative techniques, trial advocacy skills, and financial and regulatory topics.

Prior to founding BTC Law, Andy served 16 years as a federal prosecutor and trial attorney with the Department of Justice, starting in 2008 with the Department of Justice, Tax Division and then in 2012 coming home to Miami at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida where he has investigated, prosecuted, and coordinated the forfeiture of criminal proceeds for violations of U.S. laws in the areas of fraud, financial crimes, stolen identity refund fraud, foreign and domestic public corruption, money laundering, failure to file Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), false and fraudulent tax returns, tax evasion, firearms and firearms trafficking, false documentation, human smuggling, trademark/copyright, drug trafficking, national security export controls, counterterrorism, and terrorist financing. While at the Tax Division, Andy litigated numerous cases, including refund actions, wrongful levy, fraud exception from discharge, and multimillion-dollar tax shelters involving Brazilian distressed debt and intermediary transactions.

Andy started his career as an associate at McCarter & English LLP and later at Latham & Watkins LLP, where he handled complex civil matters, including contract negotiations, business and regulatory consulting, settlement discussions, contract disputes, securities litigation, internal investigations, regulatory compliance, and reinsurance arbitrations. Andy also clerked for the Honorable Justice Jaynee LaVecchia of the New Jersey Supreme Court and interned at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York while in law school.
